Through the MSU Small Town Design Initiative (STDI) the City of Hillsdale has been selected to receive design assistance to plan for the physical revitalization of the community. Working with students from the MSU Landscape Architecture Program over a several month period, community members and organizations are given the opportunity to provide input about what they would like the community to look and feel like in ten years.

Through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds are being made available for the purpose of creating and/or rehabilitating rental housing units within the Downtown area. Funds of up to $35,000 per unit are available. A minimum of twenty five percent (25%) of the total project cost is required to be paid by the Property Owner.

As a selected Blueprints for Michigan's Downtowns community, the City of Hillsdale underwent an intensive market study of its core Downtown known as the Blueprint Target Area. The resulting plan is a five year, market driven strategy, aimed at creating new jobs and investment as well as enhancement of the overall appeal and marketability of the Downtown as a destination spot for residents and visitors alike.

Hillsdale County's HomeTown Partnership is pleased to announce the eCities project. eCities is a project of the University of Michigan-Dearborn Center for Innovation Research (iLab). eCities is iLab's annual study that examines community-level factors that influence entrepreneurship, economic development and job growth.
